MY BUILD OF THE LARGE GATHERING PICNIC TABLE
Design and build of this large gathering picnic table was by me. It took a lot of working like a little forklift hauling and maneuvering the 14ft long timbers around. The construction plans allow for all parts to be cut to dimension within my shop before starting any assembly work. Subassemblies of the three legs, two seats and tabletop were then moved to the table’s final location site and assembled. I did recruit some family help for the finishing work and flipping the entire table for access to its underside.
Finshing is a matter of light sanding and applying oil base external decking stain. Wiping the wood first with a slightly water damped rag will limit stain from saturating the wood fibers and becoming too dark during staining. This table was first build and stained in 2017 (on left below) and refinished again 2021 (on right below).
