Carriage Gate

This large double door gate is massive! Despite its size, it swings smooth and easily. The wooden gate is constructed entirely from pressure treated 5/4 decking boards. Gate sag is not an issue because of its diagonal members and decorative carriage bolted joinery. Built in 2013, the gate has, and will continue to, last many years. The unique hasp at the base moves smoothly on sliding bearings and is strong enough to hold the gate closed even in extreme wind.

Design plans presented here of both gate and wall are by me. I built and hung the wooden gate with family’s help, but contracted out the stonework for the walls. This set of plans includes design and construction details for the gate, hasp and stone walls supporting the gate.
